we are not responsible for purchased art supplies.

Drawing for Beginners

This workshop is designed for beginners and those wishing to improve their drawing skills, as well as refine their understanding of visual language. Using pencils, conté and charcoal, students will learn fundamental drawing techniques such as line weights, shading and highlighting. This condensed program will help students become confident with the basic tools of visual expression.

Painting for Beginners

This workshop is designed for beginners and those wishing to improve their painting skills, as well as refine their understanding of visual language. Using acrylic paint students will learn fundamental techniques such as colour mixing, brush handling, paint application and composition. You will also learn some basic drawings skills as they apply to developing a painting. This condensed program will help students become confident with the basic tools of visual expression.

Intro to Portrait Drawing

This workshop offers an opportunity for beginners, serious students and emerging artists to study portrait drawing. Working on a single, long pose drawing for the duration of the week, students will be introduced to a contemporary-classical vocabulary, and will examine the visual and natural design concepts that define portraiture, likeness and character. Teaching will consist of lecture/demonstrations on the complex actions of light, the organic design and features of the head, neck, and shoulders, group demonstrations, and one-on-one critique at the easel. A proven, logical and sequential approach, the only pre-requisites are an open mind and a willingness to be pushed to a higher level.

Intro to Figure Drawing

Skillful figure drawing is at the core of any serious art student's training. In this 5-day workshop, class time will be divided between lectures, demonstrations and drawing from the model. The instructor will demonstrate how to capture the gestural curve of a pose while maintaining an accurate drawing through the process of drawing a basic envelope, blocking in the form, contour and shading. Students will take figure drawings to various stages of completion as they learn about the structure of the body. Each student receives individual attention at his or her drawing board or easel.

Landscape Painting for Beginners

Designed for novice painters or those who would like a refresher in the basics of landscape painting, this program introduces students to an exciting range of techniques and approaches in creating landscape paintings. Working from images or personal photographs, students will be introduced to fundamentals including composition, perspective, colour mixing, and paint application, as well as how to create, a focal point and depth of field. Plenty of individual attention and critique will be provided and students will enjoy demonstrations at the beginning of each class.

Experimental Abstract Painting

This is an inspiring, process-oriented workshop for anyone who is willing to delve into the creative journey towards abstract representation. Students will be encouraged to explore language, to foster emotional richness, spontaneity and experimentation and to develop conceptual ideas. Supportive visual information on Modern Art will be provided with an emphasis on composition, balance, colour, form and symbolism, the representation of motion and the superimposition of images in the organization of space. One-on-one and group critiques are aimed at enhancing individual growth. Media will include mainly acrylics and liquid acrylics. To experiment with different techniques students may use collage and various media.

This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of colour theory, paint handling and application, while developing one's own creative and perceptual skills. This program is suitable for those new to acrylics, as a "refresher" for those who have not painted recently or for those who would like a studio environment for summer painting fun. With plenty of guidance and individual attention, students will feel ready to explore the next step in painting upon completing this intensive workshop.
