The class will focus on the fundamentals of colour theory, composition, perspective, paint handling and application, while developing one's own creative and perceptual skills. Drawing & Painting

This course offers a comprehensive overview of drawing and painting techniques. Beginners and those with more experience are all welcome, as students can build upon their skills and hone their technique each term. Working from still life, photographs, a model, images from art history and/or independent themes and ideas, students will be introduced to specific drawing and painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line drawing, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, colour and perspective. While experimenting with an exciting variety of artist's tools, media and techniques, students will learn to explore and develop their own personal style.

Acrylic Painting Studio

This program will focus on the fundamentals of colour theory, the study of light and shadow, composition, visual perspective, paint handling and application, while developing one's own creative and perceptual skills. Students are encouraged to study for more than one term as a varied subject matter will be dealt with each session. Suitable for beginners or as a "refresher" for those who have not painted recently or those who would just like a supportive environment to further develop their painting skills, the program will offer plenty of guidance and individual attention. Students will feel ready to explore the next step in painting.

Landscape Painting

This course is designed for students who are interested in developing drawing and painting skills in landscape studies. Working from a photo reference, students will be introduced to fundamentals including composition, perspective, fore-/mid-/background and landmark representation, colour mixing and paint application to achieve transitions, contrast and sense of depth. Students can choose to paint in either oils or acrylics.

Experimental Acrylics

This course is a painting adventure designed for those who would like to discover the different applications of acrylics, including fluid acrylics and the exciting effects created by combining them with various mixed media, such as gels, collage and a variety of texturing materials and tools. Abstract Acrylic Painting

This is an inspiring, process-oriented course for those who are willing to delve into the creative journey towards abstract painting. Students will be encouraged to explore language, foster emotional richness, spontaneity and experimentation and to develop conceptual ideas. Helpful visual information on modern art will be provided with an emphasis on composition, balance, colour, form and symbolism, the representation of motion and the superimposition of images in the organization of space. Both one-on-one and group critiques are aimed at enhancing individual growth. Media will mainly include acrylics and liquid acrylics. Collage and various media or materials of the student's choice can be introduced to experiment with different techniques.

Intermediate Acrylic Painting

This course will address the needs of students with some previous acrylic painting experience, as well as those wishing to renew an interest in the medium. Specific lessons will be provided in colour mixing, brushwork, and composition. Participants may choose to work from still life or photos and time will also be given to produce work of their own design. The class will be tailored to fit the individual levels of students in a creative and positive environment.

Contemporary Acrylic Painting

This studio course is designed for students who have taken their painting skills to an advanced level and now wish to develop a body of work with the goal of exhibiting in a gallery. Each term a number of paintings will be completed with emphasis on the pace and finishing skills required to develop an art piece. Students will look at how to successfully compose, build and finish a painting.
In the fall term, students will deal with varied subject matter including still life, the human figure, landscape and nature. In the winter session the class will mainly explore the figure and portrait. The spring term class will focus on landscapes and nature. Students will work from life as well as photo references.
Those wishing to work on independent projects will also be accommodated. For each painting, time will be spent setting up the subject matter and developing an individualized approach to the work, addressing the artistic direction that the student is moving towards. Much individual attention will be given to each student.
Students will learn problem-solving techniques for painting issues that arise through the study of composition, perspective, fore/mid/background, colour mixing, contrast and sense of depth. Time will be spent on positive and supportive group critique.
